To the outside world, Jordan Burke appears to have the perfect life. A fulfilling career, family and great friends, but looks can be deceiving. Events from her childhood, and a painful secret, keep Jordan isolated and unwilling to commit to any man. For her, every relationship comes with its own expiration date.

Alex Garza has lived in the shadow of his brother’s fame for most of his life. He's an outcast in his own family and never able to put his own needs first. When his brother gives up his career to settle down, Alex is forced to reevaluate his life plans too. Over the past year, his friendship with Jordan has developed into a source of comfort. Now that he has the time to devote to a relationship, can he convince her to take a chance on love or will their painful pasts and a tragic event destroy their future

Excerpt

The sound of the doorbell breaks my train of thought. I walk through the lower level of my house, unsure of who it could be, and check the peephole when I make it to the door. I’m surprised to see Alex standing on the other side. He dropped me off at my car about three hours ago so it’s unexpected that he’s at my house.
I open the door, foregoing a typical greeting. “What are you doing here?” I probe, dropping my gaze and noticing that he’s carrying a duffle bag. “With luggage!” I say, looking back up at him, afraid to know the answer.
“I need a place to stay,” he says, pushing past me and walking into my living room.
“What?” I shriek. “How is that even possible? You literally just moved into your house.”
“I know. There was a water main break on my street. I’m out of my house for a few days and I need a place to crash.”
He must be joking. There’s no way in hell I can let him stay here with me. I can barely control myself around him in public places, let alone the privacy of my own home. “Umm, okay… I’m sorry about that but don’t you have a brother that you can stay with?”
“Yeah, but Victor and Ellie are still newlyweds. I don’t want to be a third wheel. Plus, they’re still busy decorating and fixing up the nursery. They don’t need me there,” he says, shaking his head.
“I don’t need you here!” I practically yell. “You need to go. There are dozens of hotels around here where you can stay for a few nights.”
“After all I’ve done for you, this is how you treat me?” he asks, with a hint of amusement in his voice. It ticks me off that he’s enjoying this so much.
I cross my arms over my chest. “What have you done for me?” I ask defensively.
“Provided comfort, support, and carried your drunken ass home, to name a few.”
“You’re a real piece of work, you know that? Go to a hotel, Alex.”
He drops his bag in the middle of my entryway and stalks over to me. He wraps his arms around my waist and lowers his lips, placing a gentle kiss on my neck. “If you’re worried that I’m going to try to seduce you, I promise I’ll be good.”
I bring my arms up to his chest and push him. “You’re already trying! You’re being bad right now,” I say, exasperated by his clear insanity.
“Bad can be very good, princess.” He grins and turns to pick up his bag. “I’ll just put this in one of your spare bedrooms.” He throws it over his shoulder as he jogs up my stairs. What the hell just happened?

Angie J's Review:

I received this book from the authors for an honest review.

I read and reviewed the first book of this series and fell in love with Victor and Elle.  While reading I was very interested in hottie older brother Alex and Elle's BFF Jordan.  They seemed to click.  So I was super stoked when I found out this was their book!!!

I started this book and read it in one day.,  I was sucked in with the very first chapter.  Jordan is a girl who keeps men at an arms distance away.  She will date but keeps her heart guarded.  Alex is a guy who travels so he just kinda plays the field all the while hoping to settle down ONE DAY.  Well Jordan and him have a instant chemistry.  They have even had a couple make out sessions but dont tell Elle!!!  Alex moves to town and pretty much moves into Jordan's place...did she want him to...not really but kinda yeah in a round about way.  Alex pushed Jordan to accept the fact they will be together.  When Jordan has to deal with the death of a family member, Alex doesn't give a crap who knows.  he is there for "his girl".  The promise he makes her dad had my tummy doing flip flops......The couple have a few fights and alot of miscommunications but seem to make a go of it until...........A big bomb is dropped in Alex's lap by hi dad.  When he finds out that Jordan knew and kept it from him, he says they are done.  He disappears and leaves Jordan completely broken.  Elle is stunned that Jordan admits her feelings.  She feels bad that she told Jordan (not knowing Alex and Jordan were dating) they are a bad fit and a bad idea.

The story is a really good one and the plot twist was pretty shocking to say the least.  My favorite part of the story is the epilogue.  I love a good HEA.....but then this is why I read romance right???
