Eternal Service Book Review and Guest Posting by Regina Morris

Eternal Service (The Colony, #1)

Book Blurb:

Vampires exist among us. They can be our neighbor, best friend, our child's teacher ...

They alter their aged appearance based upon the amount of blood they consume. They move to a new area, drink a lot of blood, and appear young. Slowly they limit their intake of blood and age, right in front of our unsuspecting eyes. After decades, they fake their death, move, and do it over and over again.

Most live quiet lives in an effort to blend in.

Some however want power and control.

The Colony is an elite group of vampires sworn to protect the President of the United States from these rogue vampires.

When Raymond Metcalf, vampire coven master of the Colony, teams up with a federal operative of the human female persuasion–who has no idea that vampires even exist–will his mission or his heart be compromised first?

Career military woman, Alex Brennan, is being offered the promotion of a lifetime and with it a romance that she has desperately been seeking. Does she dare accept the position as Director of the Colony, an elite group of deadly creatures of the night and risk a dangerous romance with a man who isn’t even human?

Together, can they save the President?

Angie J's Review:

I received this book from the author for a truthful review.

Ok so when a PN about vampires came through our blog I said MINE!!  I started talking to the author after she sent a copy of her novel and we both have a love for the same Vampire series.  I even recommended a Vampire series to her I was like "Go Angie Go Angie".....yup nerd girl here.

I dove right in to this novel with excitement...I mean a new Paranormal series about vampires....yup I was sold.  I think this series if off to a great and promising start.  I loved the world the author builds for the series.  It was a fresh new twist to the genera IMO and since you are reading this, you must like my opinion.
I liked the fact that the vampires can change their appearance by the amount of blood they ingest.  They can live out a "life", "die" and be given a new name and start out all over.  They can also continue to stay younger if they choose....kinda cool and new concept to me.

So in this story you meet devoted widower Raymond, his sassy sister Sulie and outta control son Sterling plus a few other vampires.  Raymond had decided to spend eternity loving his dead wife Wilma but then he is given a new boss and...well...uhm.....yeah he can't really stop thinking about her.  He feels guilty and tries to deny the attraction he feels for human Alex.
Alex is a mess of a woman.  She sees her therapist to get over a terrible stalking accident and confides in her about her feelings to this man she just met but can't forget.  Alex is very overwhelmed, anxious, and excited to learn she will be working with Vampires to secure and protect the president.

The relationship between Raymond and Alex is a slow burn for me.  They keep wanting to get together but THEN something happens.  By the time the two are finally able to *cough cough* WELLLLLL "relate with one another", I was saying "YEAH!!!" My favorite scene leading up to them "relating" is when Raymond tried to cook....people he is a vampire and doesn't eat plus was born in 1800's so has ZERO clue about our appliances'.  Let me say....hilarious!

I can't wait for the 2nd book in the series and am on my knees hoping to read book 2 because it is Sterling's book.  I have a soft spot for the bad boys and he fits the bill.  He is so naughty and bad but you can see the pain and loneliness he feels.  *Sigh* I just wanna hug him but knowing Sterling a hug isn't all I would get *wiggles eyebrows* AND maybe that isn't such a bad thing??????

Guest Posting from the author:

Vampires. Is there no greater (or sexier) hero out there? Shape-shifters do catch my eye, but for me, vampires are the sexiest heroes in paranormal romances. I’ve always preferred the lighthearted romances compared with the darker stories. Put a misunderstood, lonely vampire in a novel that doesn’t want romance, or doesn’t know he wants it, and introduce a love interest that steams up the page? Yep. That’s a good story!

There are so many vampire novels out there to read. For me, what makes each one unique is their individual worlds. Some authors have their vampires unable to be in sunlight, some authors have their vampires dead all day, while others, like me, prefer vampires around 24/7.  It really is up to the author what vampire lore they want to keep for their stories. Plus, some authors throw in a twist to make their vampires even more unique. The vampires in my Colony series novels can alter their age based upon the blood they drink. A lot of blood daily, they're young. Wean off of the blood, they can be old. This comes in handy when you live multiple lives as federal agents protecting the presidents of the United States over the last 150 years.

My novel Eternal Service is the first book in the Colony Series. This story follows the coven master, Raymond, who is a lonely individual with great responsibility. He has noble beliefs, but falls short. He’s a flawed character, and who doesn’t love that? His only friend is the token human of the group who is the human liaison between the team and the President. This human is retiring, thus the story introduces the love interest, Alexandra Brennan, who is the man’s replacement.  Raymond secludes himself from interacting with humans, especially female humans, but he is drawn to Alexandra. Will his heart or is mission be compromised? Alexandra has a past that haunts her and she’s un-trusting of men. Will she follow her heart or her career? Together, can they save the President?

Book #2 of the Colony Series, United Service, will be available in the fall of 2013. It is the story of Raymond’s half-breed son Sterling. Sterling is a modern-day vampire who clashes with his father’s antiquated ideals. Being the half-breed of the group, Sterling knows he’s the team’s weakest link and he hates it. Sterling jumps at an opportunity to do some field work rescuing kidnapped vampire children and is accompanied by a nanny of one of the kidnapped children. The nanny, Kate, is a purebred vampire. Can Sterling put behind his philandering ways and woo the lovely Kate? Will Kate accept the advances of a half-breed? Can they save the children from a religious cult who wants to kill them?

Book #3 of the Colony Series is called Enduring Service and will be available in 2014. Sulie (Raymond’s sister) has been in love with the same human man for nearly thirty years, but refuses to allow herself the joy of true love because her love is unrequited by her human boss, Dixon. As Dixon’s retirement looms near, and his memory of Sulie and the last thirty years of his life is about to be erased, does she confront her fear of intimacy and take a leap of faith before it's too late? Dixon has decided that it’s time to retire and enjoy what time he has left. When Sulie is kidnapped during a medical emergency, Dixon realizes that retirement means giving up everything, and everyone, he’s known for the last three decades. Will he risk his life, and his heart, to save her?

I’ve read many vampire romance novels and have discovered five critical elements that exist in the books that I love and read over and over again. When I began writing my novels I made sure that all of these elements made it into my books. First, I made my vampires not want for money. Who wants to read a story of a broke vampire who lives on the streets? I’d rather have them in a stately mansion that is exquisitely furnished. Secondly, the vampires are not loners. I wanted my vampires to work together in a group and have a close bond to one another. Third, I didn’t want blood to be an issue where they spend half the novel hunting humans. The Colony receives bagged blood from Uncle Sam. Fourth, I like when the vampires have a common enemy or goal. Lastly, I enjoy stories where there is some sort of ruling body governing the vampires. In my Colony eries the Vampire Council arranges marriages, blood deliveries and much more for the vampires.

I have outlines for at least another three books in the Colony series and have outlined a YA mystery that I plan to release next year. If you visit my website (www.reginamorris.com) you can connect with me through various social medias.

Author posting and book review of A Kitchen Affair by Carol Preflatish

What lengths will she go to in order to keep Derek and Jenny apart?

Angie J's Review:
I received this book from the author for an honest review.

I received this book from the author and was looking forward to a contemporary romance/suspense book because I tend to read a lot of Paranormal and Erotica.  I was looking for a nice change in my reading.

The story of Derek and Jenny was a pretty traditional romance novel.  Derek is the town millionaire who every single woman wants to date.  Jenny is a culinary student who is in the right place at the right time.  She gets him to agree to let her cook for a private party.  Derek is interested in her but his overbearing sister sets him up with another women.  I found Derek to be a bit of a wet noodle at times.  He was easily manipulated and pushed around by Colleen (the other woman) and his sister.  I was roaring at him several times wanting him to channel his inner alpha male.  While Jenny gets continually bullied by the "mean" girls.  By the middle of the story, I was glad  Derek realized who and what he wants BUT he has made some not great choices and confesses them to Jenny who then decides she needs to rethink the relationship.  Soooo this relationship doesn't go very smoothly BUT it does make the ending that much better.

The suspense/mystery of the novel had to do with Derek's company.  There is some espionage due to someone telling company secrets.  I wasn't sure exactly who the "spy' was but I did have my suspicions.  The culminating scenes of the book were pretty intense with an attempted murder being made on someone's life.

All in all I did enjoy the novel.  I think the choices the characters made (ie Derek's playing the field and making mistakes with Colleen while Jenny freezes him out at times) are typical of people in todays society.  Would I recommend this book, sure.  I think if you want a sweet, traditional romance then this book is a great choice for you.

Author's Posting:

The idea for "A Kitchen Affair" came to me when I was attending a Human Services Conference a few years ago. One of the speakers was talking about the different ways that the different social classes do things. For instance, the higher class might call the auto club when they have a flat tire. Where someone with lesser money would change the tire themselves.

I put together my love of cooking and writing and a story was born. One regret I had with the book was that I didn't include some of the recipes at the end of each chapter. So to make up for that, I'd like to share my recipe for Chocolate Chip cookies that Derek buys from Jenny at the bakery.

2 1/4 cup flour

1 t. baking soda

1/2 t. salt

2 sticks butter, softened

3/4 cup sugar

3/4 cup packed light brown sugar

1 t. vanilla

2 eggs

1-12 oz. Package dark or semi-sweet chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 375° f. Mix together the flour, baking soda and salt; set aside. Beat butter, sugar, brown sugar and vanilla until creamy. Add in the eggs and mix well. Gradually add in the flour mixture and beat well. With a spoon, stir in the chocolate chips until well blended. Drop by a spoon onto an ungreased cookie sheet.

Bake for 8-10 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool slightly and then remove from cookie sheet to a wire rack to finish cooling.

Black Dagger Brotherhood (Book 3) Lover Awakened by J.R. Ward **Guest Posting by Amee P**

Lover Awakened (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #3)

Book Blurb:

In the shadows of the night in Caldwell, New York, there’s a deadly war raging between vampires and their slayers. And there exists a secret band of brothers like no other - six vampire warriors, defenders of their race. Of these, Zsadist is the most terrifying member of the Black Dagger Brotherhood.

A former blood slave, the vampire Zsadist still bears the scars from a past filled with suffering and humiliation. Renowned for his unquenchable fury and sinister deeds, he is a savage feared by humans and vampires alike. Anger is his only companion, and terror is his only passion—until he rescues a beautiful aristocrat from the evil Lessening Society.

Bella is instantly entranced by the seething power Zsadist possesses. But even as their desire for one another begins to overtake them both, Zsadist’s thirst for vengeance against Bella’s tormentors drives him to the brink of madness. Now, Bella must help her lover overcome the wounds of his tortured past, and find a future with her…

Amee's Review:

So I reached Lover Awakened on my re-read of the BDB and I hesitated not because I don't absolutely love this book but because it is a hard one to get through, allow me to explain. This is the story of Zsadist, and Zsadist has been through, there is no other way of putting it, HELL. When his twin Phury tells the female who wants so badly to love him, Bella, that he is "ruined not broken" he is 100% spot on. It is going to take nothing short of a miracle to bring him back to life. The Brotherhood see's Zsadist almost as a liability more then an asset, but Bella see's him as more then that she can tell there is something more inside of that hard sell he portrays. When Bella is kidnapped by an overly crazy Lesser Zsadist is on a mission to find her, he himself doesn't understand why he even cares but none the less he feels it his duty. He will learn that it is because of his love for Bella that he is so crazy over her tragedy. It is not an easy road for the two of them and flash backs into Zsadists past make your heart bleed for the vampire. The story of Zsadist and Bella is not the only thing happening in this book, J.R. Ward continues to build the world of the Black Dagger Brotherhood and some very monumental events happen, none of which I will spoil if you haven't read this book because they are BIG ONES.

I would advise anyone who sits down to read this book to have plenty of tissues on hand because you are going to need them from beginning to end. This is why I say this one is tuff for me to get through, I have not ever done a re-read of Zsadists book because even though I know how everything turns out my heart bleeds for him and for other aspects of this book. My favorite character, John Matthew *sigh*, experiences heartache of his own and it is hard for me to revisit. This all being said how can you not say this book is absolutely amaZing! I think that this is the book that made the Brotherhood famous because I think that this book is a critical turning point in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. By the end of this book you feel so in tune with the characters and their lives you almost feel like you are part of it. Only an amaZing writer like J.R. Ward can make you feel the way she makes me feel by the end of her stories and she proves it hole heartily through this book. If you enjoyed Dark Lover and Lover Eternal, Lover Awakened will just suck (pun intended) you deeper into the BDB. Once you finish Lover Awakened there is no turning back you will be addicted to this series and these characters will forever be a part of you.

Friends Forever by Madison Connors

Friends Forever - Click Image to Close

Book Blurb:

Kate Winslow has loved Rome Sterling, her brother's best friend, since she was a teenage girl. Unfortunately for her, he has never noticed her, except to give her a hard time. Over the years, Rome has ridiculed Kate and hurt her feelings. Then one morning Kate and Rome finally share their true feelings.

Book Clip:

Moistening her lips with the tip of her tongue, she held her glass to her chest. The condensation spread onto her emerald silk blouse and seeped into her lace bra beneath, chilling against her overheated skin.Kate nibbled on her lower lip, and fought the urge to let tears fall from her eyes. Her heart ached and her head was spinning, but not from the alcohol. It came from being belittled and ridiculed by Rome's accusative glare. She had caught a few glimpses from him within the last few moments. His disapproving scowl was unmistakable. To occupy her mind and thoughts, she sipped more of her drink but acid churned in her stomach and bile rose in her throat. She swallowed it down, now was not the time to get sick. She had to maintain civility and demonstrate to him that he didn't bother her.I'll show him.Kate stood, smoothed her hands down her black mini-skirt and swaggered across the bar, drawing attention from men as she went. She hoped their eyes were boring into her behind as she strutted her way to her seat. Smirking inwardly, Kate slid into her chair, satisfied with her performance. She glanced at Rome's table and noticed that he hadn't seen nor paid attention to her dramatic display and that angered her. He faced the opposite direction now and there was no way he could have seen her presentation. She'd purposefully strutted her firm ass in front of the men in the room for his viewing and he hadn't even seen it. The skirt hugged her ass like a glove and she knew anyone looking could see that there were no panty lines. Perfect for enticing Rome, that is, if he'd even noticed… Which he hadn't.“God,” she muttered between clenched teeth

Angie J's Review:

I was given this book by the author for a true and honest review.

This was a sweet, quick read.  It was about Rome and Kate who have always loved each other from afar because Kate's brother told each person NO WAY!!!  Well the story starts with Kate reminiscing about her bar hoping night with her friend Hannah.  Rome and her brother show and ruin the night.  The following morning Rome has had it, he is going to declare his intentions/feelings to Kate.  The two have multiple miscommunications when declaring each other but have a sweet HEA ending.  The story was about 20 ebook pages long to it is a very sweet and fun read when you have 20-30 minutes.

Knights Mistress by CC Gibbs

This book is currently unavailable in US release as an ebook.
It will be available July 9, 2013 under the name All He Wants.

Book 2 will be available in UK June 2013 and (fingers crossed) Amazon.
Book 2 UK title is Knight's Retreat.
Knight's Mistress
Book Blurb:
Katherine Hart is thrilled to be recruited by Knight Enterprises, the most prestigious venture-capital company in the world. That is, until she makes the acquaintance of the company's infamous CEO, Dominic Knight. At thirty-two, Dominic is a self-made billionaire with a fearsome ambition and a temper to match. He is also impossibly attractive and dangerously charming when he wants to be. To Kate, Dominic seems like the perfect predator, and she resolves to be cautious despite the obvious chemistry between them, telling herself she can always leave if Dominic grows too demanding. What she doesn't know is that the decision isn't hers to make... Dominic Knight has found a new plaything, and Mr. Knight always gets what he wants

One of my FAVORITE book clips and yes it is rated NC-17!

He smiles. "Do I detect a more accommodating stance on your wardrobe this morning?"
"I'm not completely averse to being obliging."
"I like the sound of that word 'obliging.'"
"I wasn't unobliging last night, was I ?"
'No you were quite, shall we say, amenable.  I expect your breasts are tender this morning."
"Perhaps a little.  My nipples particularly.  But this dress is lined in silk so its not so very uncomfortably."
"I'm sorry. I should apologize."
"Don't. I could have said no."
And if she had, I would have stopped." Just to be clear, you can always say no.  It's only a game."
She smiled. " A very pleasurable one - awesome in fact.  Like everything about you."  She made a small moue. ' I was hoping you wouldn't be dressed yet."  He wore dark slacks and a dove grey V- neck sweater, the sleeves pushed up, his wet hair slicked back. He was barefoot.
"I'm afraid we have to leave right after breakfast."  He'd rearranged his schedule to allow him six days with Miss Hart and he had some pressing business matters to wind down this morning. "I wish we didn't.  I'll make it up to you, I promise."
"When?"
What a charming little fretful pout.  His cock twitched in recognition of Miss Hart's insatiable appetite for sex.  A quick glance at his watch; there should be time before Mrs. Hawthorn arrived. "Say in two hours?"
"Thank you" she said and smiling shyly.
He smiled an all together smile 'My pleasure."
"Thank you again.  I seem to be addicted- to constant orgasm, to the phenomenal bliss." Another smile. " I blame you."
"I willingly take responsibility. And I am more than happy to take care of your every desire."
That simple promise simply stated shouldn't make her body open in welcome but it did.  As if he'd flicked a switch and every shameless nerve breathlessly responded.  She could feel the flutter of arousal in the pit of her stomach, the damp, melting heat, the small ache of longing.
He gave he a knowing smile "Are you getting wet?"
She nodded, embarrassed and flustered. Not sure how to answer.
He crocked his index finger. "Come. I can see your nipples swelling from here." His voice took on  cool briskness. "Come, Miss Hart. NOW.'
"Be nice," she whispered, struggling to maintain some independence against his rough authority.
"Oblige me, Miss Hart," he said gently, in response to her small rebellion, 'and I'll unbutton that nice row of buttons on your dress and suck on your nipples.  Would you like that?"
With a satisfied smile, he watched her capitulate. And a few moments later, when she came to stop before him, his voice was hushed. "Very obedient.  I like that.'  He slid his fingers down the row of jeweled buttons on the bodice of her dress. "But then you want sex again, don't you?" He glanced at his watch. "Not even an hour since you came last.  We're going to have to teach you some restraint.'
"Don't" she whispered.
"Don't what?"
"don't do this to me.  Play this game with me."
Something in her voice gained his attention, her earnestness perhaps or maybe the wistfulness.  Both rare in his world.  He sighed softly. " I don't mean to be difficult,' He said, when in fact he had been, "but we have very little time.  Our breakfast will be here in ten minutes."
"Postpone breakfast. Please, Dominic?"
She'd not used his Christian name before. It startled him.  Disarmed him. "If I do,' he said, a smile beginning to warm his eyes, "you owe me."
"yes, yes." she dipped her head. "Anything."
His cock surged at the possibilities.  But his tight schedule didn't allow him to act on impulse. " I can't postpone calls to make, people waiting to hear from me." Before I disappear for six days. 'But I don't have to open the door right away.  How would that be?" He slid his finger under her chin and lifted her gaze to his. 'Would that do?"
No, she wanted to say.  But not yet lost to all reason, she nodded.
Competent and perhaps more familiar with expeditious sex then most, he rapidly unbuttoned her bodice, and gently cupped her breast in hands. "A quick orgasm to take the edge off?" With her eyes shut and her breathing rapid, he didn't wait for an answer.  Bending his head, he drew a nipple in to his mouth.

Angie J's Review:
I got this book from the author for a review and man did I SQUEEE to see it was signed to me from the author.  Yup, I am a freak!!! (Honestly are any of you who know me shocked??  Didn't think so.)

Ok I literally just finished the book and text my friend to say she can borrow as long as nothing bad happens to my Mr. Knight.....yes Sara and Susan I said MY Mr. Knight!!  :)  I must say thank you to Sara and Susan for telling me about this book because I can't say enough amazing things about it.

Ok I am going to be rambling because there is sooo much I need to tell you.  First of all, if my little clip didn't get you excited, you must be dead!!  This book was the perfect mix of erotica and sarcasms with a dash of pure romance.  Mr. Dominic Knight has met his match with small town girl Katherine Hart.  She is feisty and everything that Dominic doesn't usually chase.  The world versed playboy meets his match with the stubborn Miss. Hart.  He has such a cynical view of the world that when this fresh faced woman isn't affected by his wallet he doesn't know what to do.  He is soooooo accustomed to buying his way through life and she was not having it.  She wanted him not his money.   Basically they end up enjoying a nice "vacation" together.  You see Dominic change through the book and grow as a man AND of course FREAKS OUT!! Hello he randomly decides he wants her pregnant!!! I loved how Dominic changes through the book.  He even mentally thinks about how his behavior has changed but will never ever admit to the L word...ever.  Katherine knows that this man has a frozen heart and doesn't think she can be the one to melt it.  The final chapters were heart wrenching to say the least.  My stomach was in knots plus a few stray tears ran down my cheeks.  I cannot and I stress CANNOT wait for the next book.  Mr. Knight better get some knee pads because there will be a lot of apologizes in his future for his behavior at the end of the book....and as you will soon discover when you read this amazing book, Mr. Knight doesn't do apologizes very often!!

Angie E's Review:

FIRST and FOREMOST….. This book was 100 degree’s of PURE ENTERTAINMENT ! I loved it and would give it 100 stars on a 5 star scale. I have had my eye on this book to read for quite some time so when our blog (shameless plug: TWINSIETALK) was approached for a review I WANTED IT. This was my first read with a polyamorous relationship and I had my doubts. I mean how can a 3 person relationship work without jealousy? This book completely changed my mind. The love of the 3 characters are so strong (especially between Sabrina and Q) that I had NO DOUBT this could AND would work! I was hooked immediately from page 1. When I realized that Sabrina and Q were doing a ghost hunt I was HOOKED… YES! I’m a dork for my love or paranormal investigations and YES I myself have been involved with REAL LIFE GHOST HUNTS =) . So I was immediately drawn to Sabrina’s character for her love of ghost. I found that I identified more with Sabrina’s character throughout the story. Q intrigued me the most of the 3some. Her dark character and goth looks was what drew me in. Q’s domme mode made her IRRISISTABLE. Now I’m a straight gal but DAMN Q made me question that. She is HOT like spicy jalapeños hot. I couldn’t believe how bothered (that’s a compliment =P ) I was reading the Q domme scenes. Jude…. Jude… Jude….. *horny groan* He has got to be the most delicious DOM ever. He has such a sexy swagger to him. YET he isn’t ALL DOM, he has a very sweet and cuddly side to him as well. The triad worked so well I was REALLY surprised. I enjoyed reading the emotions that each character went through and how the authors showed the emotions so clearly. The details in this book was awesome. They made me feel as if I could SEE the scene as if watching it on TV. I’m definitely HOOKED on this series….. Can’t wait to read Dom on the Naughty List (Badass Brats #2) HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS SERIES for a great storyline as well as the panty wetting factor.

Who needs Christmas when it brings bad memories? Jude is hung up on his past but his bisexual brats Q and Sabrina are going to drag their normally good-natured Dom into the festive season even if they have to put him on the naughty list. But being in a ménage a trois isn't simple.

Family drama, unexpected consequences, and the sexy shenanigans all avalanche in with the snow to make Jude, Sabrina and Q find out exactly how deep their love goes.

This is a standalone Christmas novella that is a sequel to the Happily Ever After story of The Dom with a Safeword

Angie E's Review:

ANOTHER AMAZING STORY! This one was a little more emotional than the first. Again I felt myself pulled in by the details and the way the author makes me FEEL those emotions that the characters are dealing with. I will admit I was warned to grab tissues. I thought WHAT tissues in an erotica book? Well it has been done but I did not listen. SHE WAS RIGHT! I needed my box of Kleenex . This story was a shorter story but had all the emotion and love in it between the 3. It was filled with lots of HOTNESS (of course) and lots of love and laughter. The struggles that Sabrina dealt with is REAL LIFE issues that many people have to deal with in their life. I sympathized with Q *****SPOILER ALERT***** As a newly pregnant mommy I understand ALL the worries and YEP MOOD SWINGS. I really felt the connection with her and learning that she was pregnant.*****END SPOILER ALERT***** Jude is such a loving caring Dom. I definitely see why the 2 girls fell for him instantly. The relationship grows stronger in this book and makes me look forward to the future and seeing how the trio makes it through all life hands them. I will say my favorite part of this book was the Christmas party conversation between Q and Sabrina’s mother. I’m so excited for the next one “The Dom With The Perfect Brats (Badass Brats #3)” . Due out early Spring 2013.

Sharing the load, Sharing the blame – how 3 authors work together to make magic by Cari Silverwood, Sorcha Black, and Leia Shaw

Cari: People assume that writing with two other authors must be difficult and fraught with danger. If working with pets and children is bad, you must need Kevlar to work with authors. Although I agree in a way – authors do resemble both animals and children at certain times, mostly suffering from low caffeine blood-levels, I also would have to say that The Dom with a Safeword was great fun to write.

One of the joys I discovered was opening up the doc for the story and finding that the story had moved on without me. The quirks of the people we wrote slowly unfurled without me doing much at all. It was like opening a birthday present most days and added to the whole experience of writing. It helped a lot that we knew exactly who these people were that we were writing. We knew how they ticked and what they’d do when faced by different dilemmas.
I always have bumps and mind tangles that get in the way of me writing my stories but knowing that others needed me to do my part helped enormously. You don’t get writers block when you co-write. If you try to they throw something at you. Did we have arguments? For sure. Sometimes one of us would dig our toes in (mostly Leia lol) but generally it worked out fine.

Sorcha: For me, as an unpublished writer (and also new to the genre, as I usually write fantasy), working with two established authors was both nerve wracking and reassuring. It was nerve wracking because I knew that I had a lot to live up to. I didn’t want either of them to regret working with me, so the pressure was on. At first I was shy and a bit intimidated about speaking up for Q during plot discussions, but I quickly realized that her character arc was in my hands. If I didn’t speak for her, who would? On several occasions I had to save her from saying dorky things at the pens of my co-writers – and at one point even from sucking her thumb!
Being able to work with Leia and Cari was reassuring, though, because when it came to advice about my writing style, they were there for me with gently worded help. They also talked me down a few times when – in moments of frustration – I decided that maybe I should give up writing entirely. When it came time to publish, I had the luxury of watching and learning instead of trying to muddle through the process alone.
The best part of the entire experience was how much fun it was watching the book develop as well as getting to read chapters the other two wrote! I’d write a chapter and get two in return – a very satisfying arrangement. I was checking my chat and e-mail a million times a day, hoping for more book discussion and/or a new chapter.
As we get the sequel started, I’m looking forward to another wild ride!

Leia: Since I’m pasting this together, I get to defend myself from my co-author’s accusations. I am NOT the most stubborn and thumb sucking was NOT my idea.
There. Now that that’s out of the way, I’m going to take a different angle. Yes, it was fun and exciting to read what the others wrote, their take on the characters, etc. But since I’m pretty lazy, what I really liked was help plotting. Sometimes it was frustrating because we all had different ideas and we’re all pretty opinionated. I don’t know if you know this, but we authors like having control of our work and don’t always play well with others. But after we finished throwing writer tantrums, we figured out how to compromise. Sorcha and Cari have excellent ideas – sometimes even better than mine, if you can imagine that ;) And we all have opposing strengths and weaknesses. So together, we’re a complete package.
It was also nice having someone who understood the book and characters critiquing my work. I think I grew as an author, learning from two other authors who’s strengths balance my weaknesses. Everything just went faster. Writing, rewriting, editing. And it was so much fun the time moved quickly. I’m really glad I joined the project, even during the most frustrating parts, because it was worth it in the end. I believe in our book. I think it’s a fabulous combination of humor, emotional agony, heartwarming love, and super sexy, kinky romance.

Healing Hearts by Liz Crowe

Book Blurb:

Jay Longmire had it all--a successful business, a beautiful wife, two loving children. But one normal Sunday evening in Ann Arbor everything was ripped from his arms at knifepoint. He has retreated to Traverse City to hide from the world, nursing his physical and emotional wounds and trying to cope with mind-numbing guilt over his inability to protect his family.

Abby Powers serves him coffee he never drinks and has become obsessed with the movie-star handsome but melancholy man. And the anticipation of his appearance every day takes her mind off her own messy life.

What begins as a near desperate physical connection out of the blue develops into a friendship that has the potential to heal two damaged hearts. But Jay is terrified to love again. While Abby's fierce independence forces them both to acknowledge the deeper relationship they both desire, but that remains just out of reach.

Jo-Anna's Review:

So I know that a review was done for this book awhile ago but I just had to add my short but sweet review also, so here it is:

First off...*deep breath* WOW. This is my first Liz Crowe book and I loved it!! What a fabulous short story. Filled with heart break, passion, love and *sigh*. It was probably one of the best shorts I have ever read. Definitely a nice introduction to the Liz Crowe world!
