Off Sides by Sawyer Bennett

Off Sides

Book Blurb:
“I'm not sure what possessed me to do it. Maybe it was the impossible expectations I faced, maybe it was my own self-loathing. But I just knew I needed something different to happen. I needed someone...something...to derail me from my current path. Otherwise, I would become lost...a hollowed out shell of a man. So I did it. I approached her, then I pursued her, then I made her mine. And my life was saved...”

Ryan Burnham is the privileged son of a U.S. Congressman and captain of his university’s hockey team. While he is on the verge of fulfilling his dreams to play in the NHL, his parents want him on a different course. One he is expected to accept for the sake of his family’s public image.

Forced her to abandon her music career after the heart breaking death of her parents, Danny Cross exists on the opposite side of the tracks from Ryan. She is struggling to make her own way, working two jobs, attending college part time and volunteering in a homeless shelter. She is on a mission to build her own success.

With a chance meeting, their vastly different worlds collide, causing each to evaluate whether they are truly on the correct path to self-fulfillment and happiness. Can their relationship survive? Particularly when others are against them every step of the way. A lot can happen in just ten short days..

Favorite Quote of the book:

Finally Ryan pulls away slightly, breathing hard against my mouth. “Jesus, Danny.”
I don’t think Jesus has anything to do with the explosion that just happened between us but if He did, I’m heading to church to thank him.

Angie J's Review:
I was given this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.

Did you see the clip up above??  Hot tamales this book was good and sexy!!  I sat down and read most this book in one day.  I loved this story.  it was a traditional story setting...rich kid falls for girl from the wrong side of the tracks.  His friends think it is just for sex.  His ex and mom think it is just for his money.  But this story was soooo much more.  I loved how sweet and sincere Ryan is.  He is very conflicted over his feelings for Danny.  He really does want to get to know her but is trying to protect her form what people will say and presume about her.  Danny is so scared to fall for this Hot, popular guy.  She has had so many loved ones leave her, she doesn't think she can handle another heart break.
The story does take a dark turn when something bad happens to Danny and Ryan had to defend her from alot of people, his family included.  I for one am very excited to read the continuation of the series.  I believe the next book is called Off Limit but it isn't about Danny and Ryan.  This story is about Emily, Ryan's little sister.
I hate that my review is so short but this is a quick 137 page ebook novel.  It is very easy and quick to read but soooo worth it if you need a very sweet but emotional read.   I will say several times I had some tears in my eyes AND needed tums because I was stressed out for these two individuals.

PS>>>>The epilogue was a killer!!!  I completely loved it!!

TESTING....

Desert Heat by Laurie White

Desert Heat

Book Blurb:

Brainy, buttoned-up research scientist Julia Alvarez is horrified when she discovers the body of her murdered colleague. Then she encounters Max Reilly, the bad-boy homicide detective who’s been assigned to the case. Julia and Max find an attraction as searing as the Phoenix sun, but can they find happiness with each other despite backgrounds that are worlds apart? Can they survive the danger when the killer targets them both?

Angie J's Review:

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

Well I must admit that I love this authors ability to cause sexual tension.  She has a great ability to make you feel that sexual chemistry.  I have read another book of hers called Twist of Fate and I abso loved it.  (Twist of Fate Review here)

So this story is about a nerdy scientist who gets caught up in a plot from bad dudes to steal a cancer drug she has been working on.  Her lab partner is killed and in rolls hawtie detective Max.  Apparently Max and Julia went to school together BUT she was a nerd and he a jock...never the 2 did mix.

Julia keeps getting attacked, driven off the road and even has her house shot up before Hawtie Detective tells her that they are going to hang........at the safe house...together....alone *wiggles eyes* you sooo know what is gonna happen right???  The 2 characters have an attraction to one another from the moment they meet.  She thinks she is still in HS and no way he would be interested in nerd girl her.  He knows she is loaded AND the daughter of the mayor WHO KINDA HATES HIM and so no way she would wanna hook up with a loser like him.  Hook up they do my friends...steamy and yummy until the damn phone rings.  Why do people not turn their cell phones off or better yet, DON'T ANSWER THEM!!!!!  Well they continue to investigate who who trying to kill Julia AND her family .  When *Dramatic Music* she is kidnapped and Max has to save her.  I am going to cut my store there because I want you to read it.....It is a great suspense book.  Again I had zero clue who the "Bad Guy" was and was pleasantly surprised.   I defo look forward to reading more by this author.

Naked as We Came by Amberly Lynn Book Tour

Book Blurb:

Sixteen-year-old Cassidy Tomei was one of the lucky few airlifted aboard the Wonder to the planet Nyx. This emergency exodus from Earth was meant to bring new hope for the remaining survivors of humankind, but there’s one problem. Humankind isn’t alone on this mysterious new planet.

On Nyx, Cassidy is one of many living amongst subzero temperatures and with nothing, but a meager ration of food for every household. When the rations deplete, she flees to into unfamiliar wilderness in search of food, but instead discovers debris from a foreign spacecraft that proves humankind is no longer the dominate species.

Soon, everything she knows is at stake and everyone she loves is dead. But she’s got one more battle to fight when she’s taken prisoner within Pelhoi, a concentration camp constructed specifically for humans where hominoid creatures dubbed, “the Achillai” reign supreme.
Jo-Anna's Review:

I got this as an ARC copy for the upcoming blog tour. I chose this book because it's YA and I now have a thing for alien type books and I'm glad that I agreed to read this book.

The plot of this story is unique and intense. It definitely keeps you on your toes and it makes you want more. Many movies have been done like this where you see hostile aliens and frightened humans trying to survive but reading it on paper, made me appreciate it so much more.

Cassidy is a young woman who fights to hold onto everything she has. She's strong willed and confidant.

Red-Eye or Alyen is Cassidy's love interest in this book and I like him right away. When you first meet him, you can tell that he wants to protect her.

This story as a whole is about survival and Cassidy would be willing to do anything if it means keeping her family and those closest to her alive. She wouldn't even blink at the thought of death if that would guarantee her family's safety.

I found the author did a great job on the character development  and the details of the book. It left me feeling like I was there and that I could see everything through the eyes of Cassidy.

If you love sci-fi type books, you'll enjoy this one.

Desert Rice and Desert Flower by Angela Scott Blog Tour

*** Angela will award one commenter at every stop a Mobi or ePub copy of WANTED: Dead or Undead or Survivor Roundup from her backlist, and one randomly drawn commenter on the tour will receive a $15 gift card to Amazon. ***

Book Blurb:

Samantha Jean Haggert is a beautiful twelve-year-old girl—but no one knows it. All they see is an awkward boy in a baseball cap and baggy pants. Sam’s not thrilled with the idea of hiding her identity, but it’s all part of her older brother’s plan to keep Sam safe from male attention and hidden from the law. Fifteen-year-old Jacob will stop at nothing to protect his sister, including concealing the death of the one person who should have protected them in the first place—their mother.

Sam and Jacob try to outrun their past by stealing the family car and traveling from West Virginia to Arizona, but the adult world proves mighty difficult to navigate, especially for two kids on their own. Trusting adults has never been an option; no adult has ever given them a good reason. But when Sam meets “Jesus”—who smells an awful lot like a horse—in the park, life takes a different turn. He saved her once, and may be willing to save Sam and her brother again, if only they admit what took place that fateful day in West Virginia. The problem? Sam doesn’t remember, and Jacob isn’t talking.

Jo-Anna's Review:

The reason I chose to read this book is because it's YA and I'm so happy that I did. When I marked this book as "read" on Goodreads, I felt that 5 stars did NOT do this book justice. This is probably one of the best books I have read this year!

I am new to reading Angela's books and this is the first of hers that I have read but I am now hooked. When I was about half way done, I actually PM-ed Angela and gushed about the book. I just had to talk to someone about it and who better to talk to then the author herself?

The first chapter of this book begins with telling us how Sam and Jacob find their mother dead. Then the story goes on to tell us how they run away, what they go through and things they do to survive in an adult world. So many emotions went through me as I read this book. There were parts that I was scared to read more but I just had to find out what happened. I just love Sam. I've never read a book with a POV of a 12 year old but the way Angela writes this story, after the reading the first sentence, I couldn't put the book down. I could have read it in one sitting if RL didn't get in the way.

I'm so happy to be apart of this tour and that I get  a chance to read these books. I am recommending them to everyone I know that reads. I'm also so very excited to read the next book. Great job Angela and I can't wait to hear more of Sam's story!! Definitely a must read!

Book Blurb:

Bodies have a canny way of finding Samantha Jean Haggert. The first, the dead body of her mama. The second, a naked man in the middle of the Arizona desert. For Sam, dealing with one dead body in her lifetime is more than unfair. Two, is downright cruel.

Seven years after running from West Virginia, Sam's now a young woman of nineteen, trying to put the pieces of her life together with the help of her family—Jacob, Boone, and Laura. But the naked man in the desert spirals her world out of control, resurfacing past hurts, revealing old secrets, and pitting her between two men who via for her heart. Carson, her friend, her first kiss, and the one man who knows everything about her past and loves her despite it. And Turner, the stranger who knows nothing, but who excites and frustrates her all at once.

When bad choices made as a child leads to more bad choices as a young adult, Sam finds herself at a crossroads and is forced to face her demons head on if she plans to have any future at all—with Carson, with Turner, or with anyone. But fixing the wrongs of the past takes time, and learning to forgive herself is damn near impossible.

Jo-Anna's Review:

After reading both of these books, I'd have to say that this one is my favorite. I love them both but this one, wow. I thought the emotional turmoil couldn't get worse then the first book but this one, knocked my socks off.

I think from the first page to the very last, I was on the edge of my seat. If I had time, I could have read this book in one sitting.

After finding a naked man in the desert in the beginning of the book, Sam's life is thrown for a loop. What Sam goes through...wow. I don't want to give away any spoilers but I just have to say, the ending?? Wow!! Seriously?? I need more. A book can NOT end like that. It can not. But of course I am arguing with myself because I enjoy books that have cliff hanger endings. It leaves me wanting more. In this case though, I NEED more.

AND I just love Turner! I do. But I love Carson also. I love them all.

Angela Scott has been amazing through out my journey of reading these two books. Poor thing has had to put up with my PM's and she has the patience of a Saint.

These two books are now high are my list of favorite books that I have ever read. I just loved them. I can't say that enough. You need to read these books!! I don't have enough words to describe how much I enjoyed these books.

These two books are must read!!

Author Information:

I hear voices. Tiny fictional people sit on my shoulders and whisper their stories in my ear. Instead of medicating myself, I decided to pick up a pen, write down everything those voices tell me, and turn it into a book. I’m not crazy. I’m an author.

For the most part, I write contemporary Young Adult novels. However, through a writing exercise that spiraled out of control, I found myself writing about zombies terrorizing the Wild Wild West—and loving it. My zombies don’t sparkle, and they definitely don’t cuddle. At least, I wouldn’t suggest it.

I live on the benches of the beautiful Wasatch Mountains with two lovely children, one teenager, and a very patient husband. I graduated from Utah State University with a B.A. degree in English, not because of my love for the written word, but because it was the only major that didn’t require math. I can’t spell, and grammar is my arch nemesis. But they gave me the degree, and there are no take backs.

As a child, I never sucked on a pacifier; I chewed on a pencil. I’ve been writing that long. It has only been the past few years that I’ve pursued it professionally, forged relationships with other like-minded individuals, and determined to make a career out of it.

Changing Tracks by Sarah Cass

Book Blurb:

Cole Mitchell runs the busiest saloon and brothel in Dominion Falls. He keeps his women at a distance, unwilling to relive a past he worked hard to forget.

Until the night Jane Doe falls into his saloon bleeding and near death. She wakes with no memory, only the firm belief someone tried to kill her. In the strange world of amnesia she manages to find solace in Cole’s arms and he finds home in hers.

While they work together to solve the mystery of her appearance, their pasts – her lack of, and his buried – build a barrier between them.

To make matters worse, Jane’s past isn’t willing to let her go. A stranger proves he’ll kill to keep his secrets safe. With those she loves in danger, Jane’s errant memory is all that stands between them and death. Cole can only do so much to protect her, will it be enough?

Jo-Anna's Review:

I chose to read these book because the blurb sounded like it would be intense with edge of your seat moments and boy was it ever.

Cole is a sexy mysterious business owner and Jane randomly shows up one day to his brothel not remembering anything that happened to her. Sparks fly and passion ignites.

I liked how Sarah drew a picture for you with her words and it felt like you were actually there. The details and the building of the characters was done really well and I feel like I know them all.

The cliffhanger at the end of the book definitely leaves you wanting more!

Can't wait to find out what happens next! Keep up the great work Sarah!

Author Information:

Sarah Cass’ world is regularly turned upside down by her three special needs kids and loving mate, so she breaks genre barriers; dabbling in horror, straight fiction and urban fantasy. She loves historicals and romance, and characters who are real and flawed, so she writes to understand what makes her fictional people tick. And she lives for a happy ending – eventually. And enough twists to make it look like she enjoys her title of Queen of Trauma Drama a little too much.

An ADD tendency leaves her with a variety of interests that include singing, dancing, crafting, cooking, and being a photographer. She fights through the struggles of the day, knowing the battles are her crucible; she may emerge scarred, but always stronger. The rhythms to her activities drive her words forward, pushing her through the labyrinths of the heart and the nightmares of the mind, driving her to find resolutions to her characters’ problems.

Her first full length novel, Changing Tracks, is due to release in February with another novel set for release in April. While busy creating worlds and characters as real to her as her own family, she leads an active online life with her blog, Redefining Perfect, which gives a real and sometimes raw glimpse into her life and art. Alien Hunger book 3 - Galactic Flame by Mel Teshco

Book Blurb:

Book 3 in the Alien Hunger series. Eden isn't meant to be the alien prince's life mate; it's her sister who's been promised to him. But when Genesis comes to Earth and mistakenly believes Eden is his mate, she knows it's the perfect opportunity to play the role her sister never wanted. And when she steps into the magnificent alien's arms, and is taught unimaginable carnal pleasure, Eden knows she's filched a priceless prize indeed. A Romantica(r) futuristic erotic romance from Ellora's Cave.

Angie J's Review:

I received this book fro the author for an honest review.

What a great addition to this series.  If you read book two *cough cough the review was just yesterday people* you know that Ally promised her first born daughter to Queen Lillian's first born son....well 25 years later and guess what?  the first born son is here to collect!!!  Except he has no clue what his intended name is or what she looks like.  OOOPPPSIE kinda important right?  Well He takes the wrong female as his intended because his alien "vibes" say Eden is the one......Eden lets him take her to protect her frail/fragile sister from a life that she imagines as barbaric and inhuman.  She is shocked to learn that the aliens are kind, generous and love her instantly.  WELLLLL, not everyone loves her.  Seems she has stolen the "prize" of race.  Seems Miss. Widowed Earth Woman Sala is after the prince and isn't very shy about letting Eden know.  Don't ya just hate jealous bitches???? *fist bump* Me too!!!

Eden is freaked that everyone will find out she isn't the princes true intended.  She has fallen head over heals in love with him and doesn't want to lose him.  The aliens have built a tower to help them "find" Earth women.  When they do then Sala and Eden join forces to try and break the tower.  Eden says to save her sister (and the secret that she is not the true intended for Genesis)  and Sala to keep the Earth women away so she can keep on screwing all the single aliens. ....frigging Skank Box.  There will never be enough Kio Kio to clean her up (don't understand, read the book.  If you do understand, ya know you giggled a little bit!!)........

ANYWHO, Eden gets into trouble for breaking a promise and is sent to live alone for 2 weeks as punishment.  However, i LOVED that skanks punishment .  Very very fitting and nicely done Mel!!!  During the time Eden is being punished, she ends up admitting who she "really" is and things get kinda bad for Genesis.  I will not tell you the end of the story or why Eden gets into trouble but i can't wait for book 4?????  Please tell me there is a book 4!!!  I kinda wanna know what happens to Aline the "true" intended for Genesis.  Plus I want to know more about Aline's new "suitors"...giggles.

Alien Hunger Series Book 2 - Galactic Inferno by Mel Teshco

Galactic Inferno (Alien Hunger, #2)

Book Blurb

Book 2 in the Alien Hunger series. Ally Grayson believes she's the last person on Earth after aliens arrived, bringing with them a deadly virus that wiped out most of mankind. Somehow surviving the annihilation, she hides in a Sydney house with her dog, Bonnie. She knows she has to leave before the "eyes in the sky" detect her and have her captured, but she never expects an alien to save her and Bonnie from the jaws of a ravenous, feral dog. Never expects to be drawn to Renate, the alien male who seems more human than any man she's ever known. She fights an attraction she can't win, and soon enough she's in his arms, under his hard, amazing body. Except their unearthly desire might not be enough to keep them together when Renate's alien comrades close in

Angie J's Review:
I received a copy of this book for a truthful review.

Well lets see...If you are a regular reader of this blog, you know the Twinsie LOVE our erotica.  Man can Mel deliver some hot and steamy erotica!!!  If you are not aware, you need to become aware of her writing.   This is the 3rd book I have reviewed for herI have not been disappointed except for when the book is over because I WANT MORE!!!!!!   I am sooo not joking!!!!!

So this story is continued after book 1.  Ally wakes up without her memory due to the virus.  She and her dog Bonnie are wondering house to house looking for food and shelter.  They are also trying to hide form the ALiens because she is afraid of what will happne when they find her alive.  While scavenging, she has put together some memories from before all the death and devastation.  She was married and had 2 step children to love and care for.  She had a job she loved and a husband she adored...right?  But why does she have a feeling that something isn't being remembered correctly.

Well Bonnie and Ally run into Renate.  He ends up protecting her from a bad situation.  He cares for her after she is shaken up over the altercation.  Alot of "I hate you banter" between her and Renate, yet, she finds herself drawn to the alien.   I will admit my abso FAVORITE scene was when she was making demands of what will and will not happen between him, her and his comrades.  I mean WHO negotiates when a man is naked, ready and waiting while laying in between HIS woman's thighs????  Oh yeah Ally does AND he agrees....LOL!!!  Gotta love Ally for that one!!!!   If you read book 1 you know that "sharing" is to be expected because both the human race and the alien races (yes plural races) are dwindling.  So Renate kinda gets into big big big Alien trouble for refusing the share his woman with his comrades.  I mean if 3 kings can share then a captain should definitely share...right????  Well you tell Renate that!!!

So some exciting running from the Mothership happens and then Ally gets hurt.  So Renate has no choice but to go back and get help.  However big big big boo boo....he forgets Ally's best friend, Bonnie.  Well Ally is hurt he betrayed her by going to the aliens AND leaving Bonnie to die.  Renate is also in big trouble by the kings because he is not willing to share.  The kings devise a  plan to see if Renate was manipulating Ally's mind or if she truly wont "share" with her other intended.  That by the way was pretty naughty and fun to read!!!!  Well after her "test", Ally makes a deal with the kings to go home to Earth to find her beloved dog and.....wow pretty big deal was struck and she thinks she has outsmarted the kings......*SMH* BUTTTTT   WELLLL  You better read to see what is up with the deal.

I cannot wait to read book 3 because it sure sounds like a good one as well......
